ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author looks at the field of psychology for what might be happening at the time of a breakthrough moment. At precisely the moment the author’s client Christine was wondering if there was anything that could help her solve the dark and seemingly impossible circumstances of her life, an answer came that felt like it was sent from heaven. Martin Boroson's description seemed apt for the sort of breakthrough moment that had taken place with the author’s client Christine. The author organised her thoughts and discoveries about breakthrough moments into a series of research diaries, journals, and mind-maps. The images created by her clients and herself within arts-based sessions had been central to her work as a therapist and supervisor for many years. Ideas, notions and metaphors from the dynamical systems theory also enabled her to view her question from a new angle.
