ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the client's contribution to the triangular relationship and considers how clients themselves influence opportunities to experience breakthrough moments and achieve change. Change occurs for all kinds of reasons, depending on the individual and their context, issues, problems, and desired goals. The change that takes place for a client is not always a linear process but can present itself more as part of a dynamical system. The chapter looks at some of the aspects a client might wish to change about themselves and some of the attributes that may assist them in making those changes. It focuses on some of the many different ways a client can contribute to the therapeutic relationship. The chapter argues that a client's desire for change is one of the most critical things they can bring to the therapy and that their increasing preparedness to use arts media will often directly influence their ability to achieve breakthrough moments and change.
