ABSTRACT

Psychophysical breathing exercises seek to restore natural breathing appropriate to the physical needs of the body. Mental and physical breathing occur in relation to others and to what is present in reality or in the mind, what is happening or has happened in the past. Through the breathing exercises, a safe atmosphere will develop in a group or in individual therapy. In psychophysical breathing therapy, however, they are recreated, offering an opportunity to absorb them individually. The sequence partly follows the programme of breathing school and our training groups. Repressed and thus unconscious emotions and images live and materialise in our bodies in different forms, such as muscle tension or inhibited breathing. Dynamism, pauses, and flow are basic words for describing breathing. A back-and-forth wave-like motion is an essential part of all movement, and it is important to experience it in breathing. The occurrence of breathing symptoms always depends on the degree of individual differentiation.
