ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to help a child and his family relate to one another by giving them an understanding of their inner way of functioning and their different emotional states. This understanding will activate and develop a capacity to love in the child and parents, fundamental for their relationship to become fulfilling, enjoyable, and full of creativity. It is also important in promoting healthy cognitive development within the child. Joseph was aged two years and one month at the time of referral. The first meeting was held in a large, calm room with toys and art materials laid out. Three psychotherapists were present, so that all family members could be attended to. Joseph was carried into the building from the car by his father and put down on the floor of the waiting room, his beautiful face half hidden behind long, uncombed hair.
