ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that the problems parents can experience when their young child does not respond to them in a 'typical' way, how they often voice concerns that something is 'not quite right' with their child, and how it is important to address these concerns, which may be signs of pre-autism. It explores the case study of a eighteen month child named as Filippo who did not want to play or be with people, preferring to be left alone. His sibblings are Luca and Mario. Both Luca and Mario were very much attached to their parents, and enjoyed a loving relationship with them. Therapist do not measure the siblings' developments here, but Luca and Mario clearly benefited from their own therapy sessions. They were helped to come to terms with their feelings and those of their brother, and learnt to play with him in a way that Filippo could understand and enjoy.
