ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the parents' acceptance of the physical bisexuality or intersexuality of their baby, which is founded on the constitution of the psychical bisexuality of these parents. M. Haber states that "The bisexuality is a masculine–feminine ensemble: a psycho–corporeal–sexual 'complex' which, in principle, will become increasingly psychical, but will always maintain connections with the body". The constitution of psychosexuality follows a course that begins before birth and is based on the conscious and unconscious desires and anxieties of the parents and grandparents. If the gender is designated by the parents, this first designation might or might not be syntonic with the psychical constitution of the intersex child developed in the primary and secondary relationships with the parents. Beyond the parents' contribution to the psychical identity of the child, there must also be a cultural and scientific environment that is open to the child's psychosexuality and which is not based solely on physical determinants.
