ABSTRACT

Working psychoanalytically with couples allows to think how to address this type of link therapeutically, and how psychic change can take place. Link structures can be considered as having their origins within the organization of a group within primary bonds. The analyst represents an internal object but, at the same time, he is also a new presence. If there is any possibility of new experience, it will be an outcome of the relationship between patient and analyst. The child analyst suggested that the couple have therapy. The understanding of dynamics of the couple indicates that it is probably not enough, in couple therapy, just to interpret their coflicts, because the analyst will surely be drawn into the couple's pathological dynamics. "Suffering in the link" is a notion that tries to describe the psychic pain, distress, or affliction that results from being part of shared links in couples or families.
