ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a number of ways in which coaching is used at the University of Warwick, and highlights some issues which arise that might be of interest to those seeking to utilise coaching within educational organisations. It also describes some aspects of the nature and culture of a research-intensive university. The Warwick coaching and mentoring scheme is open to staff at the university. The Warwick leadership programme is open to academic, administrative, and commercial staff with significant leadership and management responsibilities. The Warwick coaching network is a group of members of staff at the university who use coaching in some aspects of their work. Mediation might be able to facilitate an informal solution that is acceptable to all the parties, thereby avoiding the need to invoke formal processes. External coaching is expensive and, other than for very senior people, is beyond the university's budget.
