ABSTRACT

Reparation for a crime that has been committed in the mind can only be healing to the individual who performs such a process. Its first stage is mourning. If there are no ongoing urges to commit the particular crime, then mourning for what has been perpetrated only in fantasy is not a particularly complicated process. The transformation from the paranoid-schizoid to the depressive position has to be undertaken indefatigably. At the same time, using Eton's concept of container and contained, the capacity to contain painful states of mind without rushing into action to expel or evacuate them has to be developed. The crimes have been the result of a failure to detoxicate a state of mind and a resort to action. There are other possibilities that one sees in clinical work. The impulse-driven fantasy constellation may be held within its donor and modification takes place.
