ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses some basic elements of dialogicity. In dialogicity, the focus is on the borderline, in the area between people, in which they meet with each other. Open and Anticipation Dialogues are very different from each other as well. For the most part, Open Dialogues have been applied in psychiatry, where dialogues are conducted by a team committed to the actual crisis. Anticipation Dialogues are mostly applied as a one-time intervention in impasse situations of multi-agency confusions—with a follow-up session. Both Open and Anticipation Dialogues differ from practices. It is very important in both that the individuals participating in the meeting are connected with the actual case—either as a part of the client's everyday life or through professionals’ tasks. A common factor in both approaches is that the focus is on the next step for going on instead of aiming at firm plans either for the treatment and helping processes or for life in general.
