ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to make a case for ‘dematerializing’ energy and to neutralize it with respect to psychological processes as well. It considers the exploration of energy-related concepts. The natural science definition of energy is given in terms of a potential to perform, or an actual performance of work. Light is, in fact, conceived as ‘pure’ electromagnetic energy, a conception consonant with the view that it is neutral with respect to matter. Entropy as well as energy can be considered neutral to the material/mental duality. The second law of thermodynamics states that in non-living material systems, negentropy tends over the long haul to decrease, entropy to increase. In technical, scientific usage, information is a measure of the organization of a system on the basis of possible alternative aspects of that organization. Computers are composed of switches and therefore can be utilized as information processing systems.
