ABSTRACT

The self-processing tutorial is designed as a one-to-one situation, usually but not necessarily once weekly, in which there is a teacher and a single student who engages in the process within a well-defined frame. The secured frame of the self-processing tutorial does, however, create rather unbearable anxieties for some potential students. In order to secure the frame, the teacher is obliged to set aside the agreed- upon time for the student for as long as he or she wishes to continue with the self-processing experience; the time should remain set throughout the life of the tutorial. The self-processing class is ideal for individuals with overintense secured-frame anxieties and for those who cannot afford the fee of a self-processing tutorial. Self-observation must be maintained in an unfailing manner, and the principles of self-processing must be safeguarded — departures from the basic approach are certain to derail the effort.
