ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how a home-based systemic approach can enable families to support their child and creates a solid therapeutic alliance that will prove useful for families to engage with other professionals. The Itinerant Educational Service was created in Geneva to respond to the needs of supporting children and families by offering family and systemic interventions. An over-stimulating environment for a child who has difficulties with selecting and processing relevant information from his or her context puts the child at risk of developing significant difficulties in adapting to the environment and complicates the already complex issues that children with developmental delay face everyday. It is important to review the objectives regularly in order to adapt them in accordance with the way in which the child and family develop. A family approach enables the prevention of psychological problems in the child with an impediment.
