ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how the six-domain model would differ in application if the client's personality, rather than life story, were the dominant focus of work. The six-domain model of coaching presupposes an interconnection that exists between the Person, the Role and the System. The practitioners of executive coaching differ considerably in the extent to which they are happy to embrace various domains within the coaching framework. The chapter examines the proposed model against one extensive case study and in a number of shorter case vignettes. It focuses on how the client's personality and life story interact with the coaching process and how differently this interaction is managed in psycho-therapy. However, if all six domains were to be recognized as equally valid aspects of the coaching process, the clients may well experience changes that go beyond the improvements of their role performance and some transformation of meaning may also occur.
