ABSTRACT

"Getting off on the right foot" as a novice manager, therefore, or in whatever other work role one may take, can be of critical importance for both the young adult and the organization. As the case material suggests, potentially adds a great deal of richness and depth to the coaching task, without which inadvertent collusiveness between the coach and the organization, as well as painful mismatches between the person and the role, are more likely to occur. A substantial body of contemporary work began in earnest with the publication of a number of books that attempted to conceptualize the adult life course from a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic perspective. According to D. J. Levinson, the process of entering adulthood is considerably more lengthy and complex than the ways it has usually been conceptualized. Levinson's approach is similar to E. H. Erikson's epigenetic stage model.
