ABSTRACT

Each transsexual is different from all others, even though their request for hormonal and surgical sex reassignment may be the same. This is a point that must never be forgotten, even if writing a short book on the subject means that people cannot enter into every detail. When a transsexual meets a psychoanalyst, the latter expects that the person who is there in the same room will take his or her place on the mental stage and talk about conflicts, desires, past history, fantasies. Ever since childhood she had done everything in her power to make other people acknowledge her identity as a boy. In fact, she lived two lives: in school she was a girl; in her leisure activities she was a boy who played only with other boys under an assumed identity. But it all unravelled at puberty when her breasts betrayed her.
