ABSTRACT

The story of confrontation and eventual reconciliation through a process of communication is common enough though given added weight by the fame of the participants. Instead there is direct confrontation or an appeasement of authority which can hide an angry resentment. This chapter discusses the clinical examples of patients namely: Emma and Jabed and returns briefly to the theme of adolescence. Teenagers particularly between the ages of sixteen and eighteen, are searching for a new identity but on the way encounter a lot of confusion and contradictions within themselves. A child and a more grown-up self co-exist and alternate in unexpected and unpredictable ways. The complaint of many parents of this age group is that like any child they may be impulsive, omnipotent and demanding of instant gratification, but they also have a capacity for strong passionate emotions and surprising devotion and concern for good causes.
