ABSTRACT

Beauty is one source of ethics. To see something beautiful can arouse a sense of goodness. We sleep not only to dream, but to allow contact with places dreaming cannot reach, that reach towards dreaming. Sleep enables experience outside the reach of waking and dreaming to move towards dreamings reach. This coheres with the Hindu saying that everyday life is the past, dreaming is the present, and dreamless void the future. The peace found in dreamless sleep gives us something most dreams cannot provide. It takes us deeper than conflict, antagonism, fear. A stirring peace embedded in heights of awakening and depths of sleep. In psychoanalysis therapy, moment-to-moment exchange or sensing of feeling has time and room to breathe. Therapy is training in dying and coming back to life, mutual dying and coming to life. Faith makes this movement endurable, possible, at the same time faith is an outgrowth of mutual coming through.
