ABSTRACT

The secret of our identity is divine mercy. It is hard to describe the relief and uplift this brought. Renunciation seemed part of spirituality. To transcend or transform lower into higher was part of spiritual paths, east and west. To transcend oneself, transform oneself. Freud spoke of sublimation. Channelling, even transforming, instinctual life creatively. Transformational processes have long been part of spirituality. Yet, often, a model of taming and control is centre stage, controlling lower nature, taming it. Results often have been horrendous. Prisons, punishment, threats, rewards, wars, selfcrippling, and the battery of mechanisms psychoanalysis charts, rerouting of what is tamed, controlled in ways that overturn, break through, rebel. The wild within damages the controller. Sometimes you have to give up on the thing itself, the real-most X, and do what you can do. To be afraid is part of living in reality. What one makes of it is something else.
