ABSTRACT

Sir Richard Bowlby has used his unique background in medical illustration and video technology to educate increasingly large audiences around the world about the fundamentals of the parent-infant bond. He also wants to educate about the importance of attachment theory, and about the development of innovative community-based projects which help young people and their families. Those who have met Sir Richard will recognize the parallels with Donald Winnicott, both men who have treated all enquiries with utter seriousness. They are specialized in offering exquisite and unstinting support to parents and children. They are endeavoured, with success, to bring psychology out of the ghetto. And Sir Richard's father, Dr John Bowlby, collaborated with Dr Donald Winnicott in many different capacities throughout the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Both men also served as commentators upon the later infamous "blood-tie" case involving child maltreatment.
