ABSTRACT

The facts show that flying continues to become ever safer, with the number of aircraft accidents decreasing, and also show that for years the figure has been stably low. The stress that is associated with flying or that occurs during a flight can also be a factor in the development of flying phobia, as can anxieties associated with the journey by air. Pilots practising in a flight simulator often forget that in fact they are sitting safely on the ground, so realistic is the effect. When making a hard landing or flying through turbulence, the pilot actually feels the bumps. Every flight is in fact a test, in a very real way; if a co-pilot under-performs, the captain is obliged to report this to the superior. Conversely, a co-pilot is also expected to report under-performance on the part of the captain. The cabin personnel consist mostly of a purser, sometimes with an assistant purser, plus the flight attendants.
