ABSTRACT

This chapter explains preliminary data from the Extreme Abuse Surveys relevant to the forensic aspects of dissociative identity disorder. It argues that every bit of over a half million pieces of data generated from the massive response to our online surveys is relevant to the topic. Abusive rituals are often part of ceremonial practices designed to indoctrinate followers and condition or program them with the views, values, and ideology of the group. Co-author Carol Rutz has written and spoken extensively about another category of extreme abuse that can also be classified as ideologically motivated crimes. It is clear that many of the crimes that survivors suffered were perpetrated in the name of some greater good or evil or greater god or devil. As opposed to criminals who operate without an ideological motivation, typically these perpetrators appear dedicated to doing the right thing in service to their belief systems. In German this is called Ueberzengimgstaeter.
