ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book argues that the vision of psychoanalytic knowledge as an expanded horizon of inquiry is well represented in Robert Wallerstein's depiction of the generations of psychoanalytic research. It also argues that many active psychoanalytic researchers representing projects in the United States and abroad were brought together by Bob Wallerstein through the new organization of the Collaborative Analytic Multi-site Program. The Scales of Psychological Capacities have been developed into a reliable and valid instrument that is part of the repertoire of treatment evaluation. The book addresses the evaluation of outcome for archival treatments. Modern collaborative research will also include new empirical and clinical measures, better adapted to treatments and require new technical methods for storing and protecting sensitive clinical material and monitoring accessibility.
