ABSTRACT

Patients often tell one that they have had a pollution during sleep, although the accompanying dream content had no sensual character, nor indeed betrayed any sexual connection. For instance, the young man dreamt of a complicated mechanical discovery, of a flying automobile that combined all the advantages of a flying machine and of an automobile. The work was arduous, there were all sorts of hindrances in his way, but when the machine was finished and set in motion—he wakened with a pollution. Since waking masturbation had been altogether suppressed; however, it recurred at night as an occupation pollution. In conclusion the authors could therefore say that, in this case of pollution without a sensual dream, the unconscious wish is strong enough to set the organic genital process in motion, but too weak to break down the too strict censorship between Ucs and Pes.
