ABSTRACT

This usually only takes the place of some other (erotic) enjoyment that the patient considers ‘dangerous’. Smoking and sexual intercourse are both things that grown-ups only permit themselves, but withhold from their children by means of threats and intimidations. I would here recall my explanation of anti-alcoholism (Jahrbuch f. Psychoanalyse, 1911, Bd. III. S. 853, ‘Alcohol und Neurosen’).
