ABSTRACT
A patient dreamt that ‘he had to look for a rubber shoe (galoshes) on the dirty ground, while his brother and many others with their wives had long ago gone on ahead’. (The scene occurs on going home from an entertainment or something of the kind.) The patient is unmarried, his younger brother married a long time ago. The patient is attached to a married woman no longer young who has had to have the results of a perineal tear treated by operation. On the day before the dream there had been unsatisfactory sexual intercourse, where the patient did not ‘get finished’ (as in the dream). The ‘dirt’ was an allusion to the disgrace that he would suffer if the husband knew of the matter. For this reason probably, too, the normal shoe symbol was changed into muddy, and also very extensible galoshes.
