ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors highlight the approach they have seen to be effective for the women and will consequently use again the factors that appear to have constituted what the authors has come to recognize as 'therapy' for women. Negotiations for women to leave the group when they are ready are seen as positive, and something they are all working towards. The authors discuss the following questions: Why a group for women only? What is so different about women? Did men not have difficulties of confidence too? Were men always able to be assertive? Did men not need time to themselves? Numerous team meetings and lunch breaks were spent in pursuit of a glimmer of recognition for the validity of the feminist perspective. The group started in August 1987, and over the following year positive changes occurred and connections were made for the women involved.
