ABSTRACT

The author's findings of the research on how managers and consultants in organizations apply their learning from Group Relations conferences in their daily work, were categorized under the following headings. When and why do people attend Group Relations conferences? What do they learn there? How do they apply conference learning in their work? How has conference experience changed their way of working? The idea that a manager receives a conference brochure and thinks that it might be interesting, just as he might find a Business Unit Management course interesting, is entirely fictitious. Another observation was that in making the decision to attend a Group Relations conference it can be helpful if a colleague had previously attended, demonstrating that a conference is something one 'can do'. A third observation was that people impressed by the experience of a Group Relations conference, then want to attend more Group Relations conferences.
