ABSTRACT

In this chapter author explores two different responses that he had to the conference. He describes a disturbing, repeating, experience the author had at the Belgirate IV conference. The author concentrates on one aspect–the disintegration that he proposes is at the heart of "evolutionary creativity", that is, the sort of creativity that moves beyond "reparative creativity" into the painful creation of the "new idea". He also describes the genesis at the conference of what he consider to be a creative idea in terms of his own potential contribution to group relations design. A design idea for a new, differentiated, role at group relations conferences emerged during the exploratory event–an idea which has further evolved and been piloted during the year since Belgirate IV at the International Society for the Psychoanalytic Study of Organisations conference in Oxford. The author also explores the context of Belgirate IV and of group relations more broadly.
