ABSTRACT

Becoming assertive is communicating one's thoughts and feelings, openly, honestly, clearly, and without violating any other person's rights. It is the healthy alternative to being aggressive, or to being passive. Young babies are naturally self-assertive; their survival depends on it. These babies tell those around them exactly what they need. Becoming more assertive can improve people's sense of identity, their self-confidence, their pleasure in themselves, their lives, and the relationships around them, and their general mental and physical health. It can reduce feelings of depression, anxiety, and stress. Negative thoughts are effectively stopping one becoming more assertive and liking themselves more. Rights charter is a concept that identifies a number of basic "rights", based on the presumption that people are all equal and that they all possess these same fundamental human rights. There are a number of basic rights that are very important, yet often forgotten, ignored, or not implemented, and all of these can really affect one's self-esteem.
