ABSTRACT

Change is essentially painful. There is a process to change, and people first have to recognize, on quite a deep level, that their present road/lifestyle/way of doing things/habitual pattern is often not the best one. People have to start stripping away the illusions that they have about them self: that things are all right, that they can cope, that s/he will come round, that it will be all right the next time, that they can change whenever they want to. These are illusions. The next step is to realize that they actually have some "choice points". What needs to happen next is a bit complicated. For change to be really effective, people need to get to the root of the "problem". The "problem" is often the attitude or behaviour that doesn't work, that they want to change; the root of the problem is why they developed this attitude or behaviour in the first place.
