ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents a critical analysis of, or a serious reflection on, what is going on in society today that erodes humanness in the workplace, be it through imposing "an organisational self" on the employees, or by "amputating" psychic health in organised work and eroding social relationships. Improving psychic health at work and organisational health might require that we take a closer look at the specifics of different parts in a modern organisation. James Krantz conceives "sentience" as an indispensable element in systems psychodynamics to understand and work with relatedness in emerging "modern" organisations. "Sentience" is neither a substitution for "holistic pictures", nor a new way to set people's minds. The book focuses on the socio-psychological and psychodynamic dimensions, but it is obvious that other disciplines also have a leading part to play—and they do.
