ABSTRACT

Despite all these encounters with victims of extreme violence I am still generally an optimistic person. I am absolutely convinced, and the revolution we had in East Germany backs me up on this, that you can get things moving from the bottom up, that small strokes fell big oaks, and that while perpetrators of extreme violence can be found in decision-making bodies, they aren’t the only ones. There is always cause for hope. Just recently a judge in a state court was heard saying that as a result of the false memory debates there was now hysteria about the power of suggestion.
