ABSTRACT

In Integrative Gestalt Practice (IGP), the word "contact" is used in a broad sense about all the aspects and processes that take place in the intersection between organism and environment. Carrying out a quadrant analysis of contact will shed light on certain ways in which the exchange of information between I-ness and otherness takes place. The contact concept is closely associated with the concept of awareness, which, as mentioned earlier, is another of the three key components in IGP work. Awareness work is the primary means for uncovering the gestalt process and discovering how a person forms gestalts the way he or she does. The concept of awareness contains a double duality: of focused and defocused awareness and of reflective and pre-reflective awareness. An IGP experiment can include almost anything that concerns the person's phenomenological reality in relation to the field that he or she has been a part of.
