ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to demonstrate that some of the therapeutic factors operating in the therapeutic process do likewise in the diagnostic process. It attempts to explain that the basic elements of the diagnostic interview are present in the therapeutic session, and vice versa, that the main substance of the latter is also a valuable component of the former. The chapter considers common to the “diagnostic” relationship and the therapeutic relationship in terms of patient and therapist. In terms of the diagnostic interview, it is easy to see that also we are engaged in a process of acquiring knowledge. The interest in considering the therapeutic factors in diagnostic interviews lies in the fact that it helps to encourage an attitude of greater involvement in the therapist, by seeking that the interview, from the very first moment, should be beneficial to the patient.
