ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the idea that the prevalence of new technologies is not only changing the form of the family but is interfering with how the psyche becomes structured. It argues that the smartphone has become a substitute for the desire of the other and the child cannot integrate the desire of the other through the lens of the smartphone. The chapter suggests that the lens of the smartphone does not operate in the same way as J. Lacan had conceptualised the function of the "Mirror" and that therefore, the Mirror stage is interrupted with effects for the formation of the ego and the structuring of the psyche. It also examines the idea that life lived from the beginning with the presence of the smartphone lens has a significant impact on the developing child subject. The work is dedicated to giving the child subject the responsibility of his or her own existence.
