ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a story about some obvious and simple "mistakes" arid their consequences. It is also a story about failure to pay attention to one's own warning lights because of being in too much of a hurry and wanting to take shortcuts. What often happens then is that one loses direction. Lack or feedback can cause dilemmas about change in many different ways. Lack of internal feedback can contribute to the creation and perpetuation of incorrect beliefs about different individuals and work groups within the organization, informal power structures obstructing the formal power structures, and other dynamics that cause resistance to change and the system to become stuck and eventually reduce its productivity. The quality of the consultant's motivation is often a very important part of the context of the process of accepting a request and of carrying out a consultation process.
