ABSTRACT

Lily’s life was in a rut. She was in her thirties, not seeing anyone romantically, out of work, and living with her parents. Occasionally she worked as a waitress for her family’s restaurant to both help out and earn money, which she found distasteful, especially because she had done so for much of her life, ever since she was a child. In fact, Lily disdained being a “waitress”, which was an apropos title in untold ways, for Lily was playing a waiting game, living her life as if always waiting for an alternative life to magically appear. And all the while, Lily complained bitterly that her “lust for life” had already been prematurely drained into her “father’s business”, the restaurant, and it was time for her to move on with her life.
