ABSTRACT

Each person on a journey of recovery from childhood trauma will probably find, to a lesser or greater extent, that they have to navigate a path of their own making. In this chapter, the author shows a Babette Rothschild YouTube video about healing from trauma and it being compared to opening up a big bottle of fizzy drink that had been shaken. She finds that her dissociative parts are more prone to come up when she feeling under some sort of threat, or if something's triggered her from the present into a past traumatic felt sense. Acceptance of dissociation as a part of her reality was a huge step towards recovery. Acceptance of this and the reason for it being there is very important too. It helped to recognise that things might have to get worse before they got better.
