ABSTRACT

Seductive, repulsive, fascinating, appalling — a porn image instantly arouses a powerful emotional response in the viewer, no matter whether the feeling-tone is on the side of pleasure or on that of disgust. Pictures and videos are codified into bits of information, porn has reached the state of immaterial and infinitely reproducible images, forming an immense erotic digitalised landscape, dubbed a pornscape. There would be no porn, no need to record and reproduce sexually explicit images, without having the spectator in mind, as the final recipient. Our transformation into eavesdroppers and voyeurs is blatantly open, not at all hidden, as hinted by the common use of these terms in the past eras. Reality is constantly awash with images/phantoms, porn being just a part of this flood, and accordingly we are turned into voyeurs and cannibalic consumers of those very images.
