ABSTRACT

In the eyes of Primo Levi and others, the secret bearers were also the guilty ones, the privileged, those with special rights. The secret bearers—this was the name given to potential witnesses from both sides. The encounter with the Real is always a missed encounter. In this tuche, where the subject tries to deal with the trauma through phantasme, the Real is the sign—the trace of that part of the trauma that is indigestible. The trauma of the victims of sexual seduction that S. Freud studied happened suddenly, because their shock "happened" when they were not ready for it. Freud speaks of two events required for the formation of trauma, when the second event registers the first retrospectively, thereby making it traumatic. Bearing witness has not lost its importance, but it has become reoriented to what can be called "eyewitness testimony", or testimony that issues from the Real and not from the narrative.
