ABSTRACT

In psychotherapy, one of the initial concerns of therapist and patient is to understand the nature of the patient's problems in order to resolve them. In implementing the therapy protocol, the therapist also should predict where, when and how the patient is to respond. This means that the therapist should be able to observe the patient's responses, to recognize, and to understand them. Habib Davanloo's set of interventions, aimed at unlocking of the unconscious, which he refers to as the central dynamic sequence (CDS), can be considered as the treatment protocol for "trial therapy" with all patients located on the spectrum of structural neurosis. The initial interview with the patient is also called "trial therapy" because of its dual function: the diagnostic and the therapeutic function. With regard to the concept of working alliance and the patient's part in it, he therewith distinguishes two components: a conscious and an unconscious component.
