ABSTRACT

A number of projects, inspired by the experiences of the Marlborough model, involving eating-disordered adolescents are currently being piloted. The first experiment of applying multiple family therapy ideas to eating-disordered teenagers was pioneered in Dresden. Clinicians in Dresden and London are integrating these in multi-family programmes that extend over the course of a whole week. The rooms are well equipped with video-cameras so that there is ample opportunity to record interactions, which can then be reviewed jointly by families and staff later that day or at some other suitable time. Another multi-family project that gained significant inspiration from the Marlborough model was set up in London over ten years ago—the “Family Matters” workshops, now renamed “Mental Health Matters” workshops. To date, about a hundred eating-disordered young persons and their families have been seen in the multi-family settings in Dresden and London.
