ABSTRACT

Emotional intelligence is about learning to be emotionally smart. Emotionally smart people get the most from managing their own and other people’s emotions. They are able to identify their own emotions. They have developed the ability to pick up other people’s emotions. Strong emotions can be disturbing for both the person experiencing them and for those around at the time. Strong emotions could include anxiety, anger, or severe emotional distress. Some people who are stressed also feel guilty. People who are stressed see every situation as one of either ‘win or lose’, and yet most of life is about finding a middle way. Stress can be rated as mild, moderate, and severe, and an individual’s reactions to each of these stages could range from being mildly stressed, to moderately stressed, to extremely stress. Some people think that assertiveness training is only useful to people who are passive and anxious.
