ABSTRACT

Brainstorming is a good tool for considering the consequences of a particular course of action. Coping imagery requires a person to imagine him or herself coping in a situation that usually causes them to become stressed. Assertion training encourages people to use skills that build upon inner resources. Assertion training provides the individual with the relevant techniques to be able to take control of his or her communications in a way that is open, but also respectful to others as well as the person concerned. Giving criticism can be as hard for some people as receiving it, especially for people who suffer from stress. It can seem like asking for trouble, since the stressed person usually just wants to keep his or her head down. Many people approach arguments as if they are a life and death situation. The ability to handle difficult situations and hold a conversation depends on being able to develop active listening skills.
