ABSTRACT

The wider application of the idea to cover infants with poor sight or no sight must be left over till the main theme is stated. The infant may respond to the environmental provisions, but the result in the baby is maximal personal maturation. A baby is held, and handled satisfactorily, and then is presented with an object in such a way that the baby’s legitimate experience of omnipotence is not violated. The result can be that the baby is able to use the object, and to feel as if this object is a subjective object and created by the baby. All this belongs to the beginning, and out of all this the immense complexities develop which comprise the emotional and mental development of the infant and child. The baby gets settled into the idea that when he or she looks what is seen is the mother’s face.
