ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses on two threads "Having a cup of tea creatively" and "Now for something completely different" and woven them with a third thread from David Campbell that connects to another memory. It discusses the approach to developing the sort of "relationally responsive" abilities McNamee is talking about that involves becoming reflexive to the discourses and contexts and using the beliefs and discourses as a resource. Some services are being developed on the assumption that there is a single treatment approach to fit all people, regardless of age, culture, ethnicity, gender, intellectual or physical ability. Some services require practitioners to single out one person in a family as "the patient" for a diagnosis before a family is eligible to receive a service. Some psychotherapists are expected to approach emotional and relationship difficulties in the same way physicians assess, treat, and evaluate physical medical symptoms.
