ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author considers the several levels of the training hierarchy as they apply to creating therapeutic atmospheres for people with severe mental illness. The training hierarchies are learning that a code of conduct matters, keeping vulnerable patients safe and in a clean environment and helping severely mentally ill patients keep physically well. These also include providing effective support and care plans and putting words to the most urgent atmosphere in an individual or group setting. The author focuses on what is the best way to learn, or be trained in a way that enhances knowledge and thus expertise and skills. Finally, at the top of the hierarchy and what is the added ingredient in a mental health and social care setting that creates a therapeutic atmosphere, is the training of staff in the group processes and individual understanding of patients.
