ABSTRACT

Psychoanalysis was first introduced into China in 1912, its effective date of introduction comes with the reform and opening-up since the 1980s. Since then, psychoanalysis in China has developed like a raging fire and become more international and standardised. Psychoanalysis and therapy is a very professional kind of work. Analysts and therapists must have been analysed thoroughly and be able distinguish clearly between the patients’ issues and their own. The initial interview of psychoanalysis includes at least four tasks: dynamic psychoanalytic assessment, to determine whether the patient is suitable for psychoanalysis, to introduce psychoanalysis as a treatment form, including the setting and beginning to build a therapeutic alliance. When patients need a great deal of help with the reality of their lives, they may not be suitable for psychoanalysis and may need a treatment that helps with the practicalities of their lives.
