ABSTRACT

Psychotherapy can catalyze the development of a core integrative process by facilitating dyadic states of resonance: right hemisphere to right hemisphere, left hemisphere to left hemisphere. The time of psychotherapy interrupts the ordinary course of life and turns it into a moment of pause, reflection, research. Besides, the therapeutic relationship becomes the place, space, and structure that protect from fear and sense of disintegration, and thus provides a modeling experience, like a new parenting and a new possibility of attachment. This new attachment relationship, for those who are willing and in need, is a chance to rewrite their life scripts, re-deciding in a healthier way how to face life and, how to choose strategies more effective than the archaic ones chosen during childhood. In therapy it is easy to recognise how the script acts to affect and limit the adult’s freedom.
